What is the best way to become an airline pilot?

I am currently in college and I am going to major in mathematics. What flight school would be a good choice? I live in southern California. I also know that after flight school I would have to build flight time at least up to 1500 hours before I can even consider getting a job. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would really appreciate if Skipper747 could respond. Anyone is welcome to answer thanks.

The very best way... is to become an Air Force or Navy pilot first -

You are in college, join the AF (or Navy) ROTC...!

After 10 years in the AF (8 years in Navy) chance of becoming airline pilot are 97% -

Major airlines prefer, by far, ex-military pilot -

Flight school (costs) - being flight instructor to get 1,500+ hours, then flying with regionals -

That second job at a McDonald's every night to survive...

    All that is the "pits"...!

No guarantee you will ever be hired by a major airline -

I think that you have to go in the army first before you can become an airline pilot.

Getting a military pilot position, .1% chance, if that. Academy grads have a little better chance. If not, have $80-100K laying around.
