If they are advertised by the company that owns the rights that it is freeware (or donationware, which makes payment optional) then you can download to your heart's content. If it is commercial software (IE: MS Office 2016) and you download it free, you got it from a pirated copy on a torrent and you are in violation of the law. (and probably loaded with lots of new virii and malware that came along attached to it and were installed when you did the installation of your "free" Office software..

If it cost money yes if its a free app no. But either way I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as you don't do it a ton you will be a oh k.

no, it is 100% legal. if its free, don't worry. If it cost money and you don't pay, thats different.
