What kind of format should I use instead of mp3 to play music in the car?

Alright son, MP3's are very common and popular. Because MP3 files are small and they can easily be transferred across the internet, iPhones, iPads, iPods and iTunes.
However, they only sound great if they are compressed around 256 Kbps to 320 Kbps. Anything lower than 100 Kbps will sound pretty awful.
MP3's can also be compressed into different frequency range and into stereo mode or mono.
If you have great hearing, you should be able to hear well between 20hz to 20Khz. If your hearing is damage for some reason or if you have hearing loss then it will vary from person to person.
I have great hearing and MP3's are great if you have thousands of music with a limited amount of storage.

See what your player supports. WMA and WAV might work on most CD players. You exxed out MP3. You can put 80 minutes of .wav on a CD, but many hours of MP3 will fit one disk and that's fine for voice recordings. I have some travelling disks with 8 hours MP3 each for long trips in my Corolla. The background music sounds just fine.

It depends on your stereo player. Read the owners manual. Some can read MP3 format and some can't.

Decks that sport mp3 usually do wma also but there's no real benefit with wma. Ogg is remarkably smaller than mp3 but I doubt many decks support it. What is your goal?
