What's wrong with my laptop?

I've owned my laptop for a while (about 10 months) and up until yesterday it would allow me to charge it while it was running. Now when I plug it it while it's running, It'll show that it's charging for a split second and then it won't do anything and it'll only charge when it's completely shut off.

    "What's wrong with my laptop?"

    What brand and model?

"I've owned my laptop for a while (about 10 months) and up until yesterday it would allow me to charge it while it was running. Now when I plug it it while it's running, It'll show that it's charging for a split second and then it won't do anything and it'll only charge when it's completely shut off."

It possibly got a driver update, to turn off the lying light.

Many laptop manufacturers know that they can increase the battery life, by NOT charging the battery until it is less than 20% charged. So the light was indicating only that your charger was plugged in, and/or that the laptop was running on the charger, and this made you think that it was charging.

It may also be that you have damaged your battery with bad charging practice, and the laptop has suddenly realized the current condition of your existing battery. How much run time do you get between charges now, as compared to when it was new?
