it depends.
Are you capable of learning something new? and maybe some very basic levels of researching (googling) and troubleshooting?
Windows 10 is quite a bit different from 7 and earlier. It will take a little bit of relearning how to use windows (its not a HUGE change, but it is a change). Its pretty much identical to windows 8 except comes with a start menu instead of the full screen metro screen.
Windows 10 is pretty stable, and most all software now fully support it. So it should work just fine, but there may be some pieces of software or hardware drivers that may require a little tweak to work or download specific drivers/versions. not likely, but anytime you upgrade your os, there are always going to be a possibility of compatibility issues. which is why it may require basic research and troubleshooting.
Windows 10 is a good step forward in many directions. its pretty well optimized (compared to 7 and earlier, pretty similar to 8). The UI is also alittle nicer and cleaner.
It has amazing built in drivers aswell as its very good at finding drivers automatically (so almost everything is basically plug and play).
Lots of other nice little things like multi-monitor support/features.
As for the bad.
-Lots of focus around the windows store and "apps". you dont need to use them, but there are lots of software only developed in app store (such as apps to customize your start menu more, seem mostly available through the app store). Also any microsoft games seem locked to this app store and not being released for steam :/
Personally i uninstall all the apps including the app store itself (can google that if you want)
-More data collection. microsoft is collecting more data on your usage then previously (dont get me wrong, there was a lot of this in every version since windows vista. they also added most of the extra windows 10 data collection to 7/8 via windows updates).
most of all of this can be disabled (as it could e in previous versions).
When install windows do NOT choose express settings. choose custom/advanced settings (advice for installing ANY software. never choose express settings lol), and turn off all the things you dont want to share.
After installed go into privacy settings and location settings (honestly id suggest going through all the settings in the start menu settings).
You can then use something like antibeacon (its software from the people who make spybot search and destroy, a very good spyware scanner/remover), it will disable pretty much all the rest of the data collection.
I highly recommend you disable cortana (do this by clicking on start menu, then type something and on the left side of the search results click the settings/gear icon, and turn off cortana). if you do not do this, anything you type into search will be sent to microsoft and may be (likely be) used for advertising purposes. but if you want to use cortana you need to leave it on of course.
Also dont use microsoft's web browser, as they collect all data from their browser (formerly internet explorer, now microsoft edge). which you honestly should not use it anyway, its **** and insecure.
-Windows updates no longer require your permission to download or install. definitely make sure you go into your windows update settings and select "notify to restart". otherwise not only will it download/install them without your knowledge or permission, it will automatically restart your pc while youn are using it to finish it. But if you choose to notify to restart, it will ask before restarting (but seems to force the restart after a week or so. so if you leave your pc on and leave for a week, it will have restarted by itself)
This is a pretty distasteful change imo. it can cause problems (bad updates. they dont happen that often, but they do happens and can render your pc completely useless. now if it happens the stakes are much higher and it will cripple millions of pcs), aswell as be a security or privacy issue. they can now push updates without knowledge. so if they wanted to allow the nsa, or another company or anyone into every windows 10 pc, they could do so and you wont know about it and cant stop it (unless you completely disable updates). Its not that likely it will happen, but since the updates are forced without knowledge, it CAN happen. and can be very bad.
If you do decide to go with windows 10, i highly recommend you do a full wipe and clean install of 10 (dont just do the "upgrade" option that keeps your files. that often ends badly with issues).
Windows 10 is a far superior os, and although they do collect more data, again most of it can be dealt with if you really feel the need to. (so you know, every app you install on your phone likely collects more data on you then windows will be. like candy crush can completely steal your identity. And google who is the one behind android os that most all phones use, aswell as the browser, search engine and all other services collect WAY more data on you. so data collection isnt anything new).
Personally i take my privacy seriously (as should anyone), so i go through measures to minimize data collected on me. So if using windows 10 if definitely recommend doing things i mentioned above (could also google how to stop windows 10 from spying and find this information).
The most regrettable thing about 10 is loss of control over updates. there is just too much control with windows updates (they can literally do anything. literally anything), and not being able to atleast be notified of updates is too much. so i completely disable updates. and will update every few weeks.
If you are really worried about privacy and , i dont recommend using windows at all. i HIGHLY recommend you install linux on your machine. (you can dual boot linux+windows which is what many people do, so anything that isnt able to be used on linux you can run it in windows)

If you have windows 7, don't do it. If you have Windows 8, most definitely, it's a HUGE upgrade.

Only if you don't care about your privacy. Microsoft has the right to collect your information and store it on their servers. Microsoft decides which Microsoft Updates you'll get. And Microsoft has the right to control what software, files and programs that you install on "your" computer. If Microsoft thinks a software program you wish to use could cause problems with Microsoft's software, they can uninstall it for you! Who knows who could get into your personal information down the road!

NO NO NO Windows 7 and 8.1 is far better then 10. Windows 10 is far better at being spyware then any OS previously released to date.
With Windows 10, M$ owns your system.
YOU can no longer pick the updates you want installed.
THEY can choose which drivers are installed.
THEY can choose what THEY want on your system.
THEY even installed a backdoor in it so THEY can SPY on you at all times.
We all thought Windows 8 would be the worse OS M$ would release and they learned there lesson. They made some good improvements in 8 when they released 8.1. At that point we thought M$ was on the path to redemption. Then they come along with 10 and proved us wrong. People who make a profit off spyware and love the government knowing what you do on a daily basis are truly in love with Windows 10 and think it is the best OS M$ ever released. You got to admit tho, they thought this out. They first developed a OS so bad that just about every one hated and only got 23% of the user to move to it, Windows 8. Most of them had no choice when buying a new puter. With everyone thinking that M$ couldn't make one worse they release Windows 10. People hated 8 so bad they jumped on the FREE OFFER for Windows 10 before they realized that it is spyware masquerading as an OS.
M$ is pushing 10 hard because it means a big increase in their profit margarine when they sell the info they collect on you. That is why it is FREE. They have seen the profits that the smart phone makers are raking in by spying on their user so M$ decided to emulate that and cripple the desktops, laptops so they can do the same. That's why they built a back door in it so you can stop the OS with a firewall from phoning home. They spend years coping anything that Apple did. Hence we got Windows 8. Now they are going copy the smart phone industry and and force everyone to use APP.
The worse part is they have decided that you are stuck with this one. It is called Windows as a service. From this point on you will not be able to refuse updates of any kind. What that really means is that M$ can install or delete anything it wants on your puter anytime it wants. Their attitude is, tough we now control you and your puters and there is nothing you can do about it. The other reason for forcing updates on you is to also force new releases of the OS on you. This means the next time they have a Vista or Windows 8 you will not have a choice but to upgrade to it. They will use your auto update feature to force it down your throat. Everyone knows the history of M$ and how bad they can be in destroying a good OS.
With Windows 10 you can not be guaranteed protection. M$ has built a back door into it and plans on spying on its users. When the hard core virus writers find out how to exploit it, there will be no stopping them.
From Computersecurity wikia: A backdoor is a means of access to a computer program that bypasses security mechanisms. (WINDOWS 10 data collection bypasses all firewalls) A programmer may sometimes install a backdoor so that the program can be accessed for troubleshooting or OTHER PURPOSES. However, attackers often use backdoors that they detect or install themselves, as part of an exploit.
From Wikipedia
Spyware is software that aims to gather information about a person or organization without their knowledge and that may send such information to another entity without the consumer's consent, or that asserts control over a computer without the consumer's knowledge. Spyware is mostly classified into four types: system monitors, trojans, adware, and tracking cookies. Spyware is mostly used for the purposes of tracking and storing Internet users' movements on the Web and serving up pop-up ads to Internet users.
From Extreme Tech
There are certain new “features” of Windows 10 that can’t be blocked by any OS-level tweaks, including the hosts file. The updates listed above connect to vortex-win.data.microsoft.com and settings-win.data.microsoft.com. These addresses are hard-coded to bypass the hosts file and cannot be prevented from connecting. It’s been reported that software firewalls aren’t sufficient to block them, though this is unclear.

No. Too many have regretted it due to lost data and facilities. It's free so they can use us as guinea pigs. Wait until it's proven or until they issue a service pack to fix the glitches.
