What's the likelihood of getting the flu from someone at the doctor's office?

I have a vacation planned for the next two weeks that I've already taken off work for and can't miss, but I think I may have an ear infection and I want to deal with it ASAP. My dilemma is that it's flu season and I'll possibly be sitting in a room with other people who have it and contract it. That would be disastrous. I'm wondering if I should just try home remedies and hope it's not an infection. If I go, should I wear a face mask? If I go, I plan on washing and germ-x'ing my hands every chance I get and washing my clothes and showering afterward. What are the chances that I would contract it with all of this in mind?

Well, you know what they say. If you want to get sick, go to the DR.

They are really very germy places.. even considering that they are cleaned each shift or at least once a day. I would wear a mask! Then when you get home wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. I'd even wipe down your car with a lysol wipe so anything your hands touched gets cleaned.

*Most ear infections are viral and they will run their course. However if you are in a lot of pain your DR could give you something to help. Pain meds or maybe some drops.

Well unless you spend all your time in your bedroom all day, you are exposed to germs all day long. I think you are overreacting. And ear infections don't go away by themselves, especially if you will be flying. You could ask your doctor's office to schedule you first after the lunch break or first in the morning to avoid lots of other people.
