In American Football how do you count the ball being out/a tackle. When the knee hits the ground or what? Please answer?

    When a runner is tackled, he's deemed down and the play over when his knee, butt, or upper body touches the turf. The ball is then spotted at the point where the ball was when the runner was deemed down.
