I cooked at a hospital for 8 years, at a nursing home for 1 year. Loved it but you had to know the different diets and how to make the different foods to comply with the diets. I also took classes to learn how to prepare proper consistency pureed and ground foods and also needed to know all the various diets and what went on the trays. I was in charge of a staff of 6 and in charge of prepping the meals for upwards of 250 patients and several hundred employee meals. I had plenty of help to though. It was interesting and educational. the nursing home gig sucked but that was because of the management/owners kept changing, nothing to do with the actual job itself.

I also did NOT have any experience before hand or any fancy degree other than an interest in food and a quick learner.

I had a friend who was cook for a hospital. He had his w-year Diploma in Culinary Arts from a technical institute.

He loved it .. most cooking jobs are high-pressure, but this one was very easy to do.

As for being a housekeeper .. you being being a MAID? Cleaner and easier to do if you work for a hotel. Also, less exposure to deadly germs. Don't go there.

You will not get a job as a cook at a hospital unless you have the proper education for it.
