That would depend on the age of the puppy. Young puppies play hard and sleep a lot, but you can usually tell when a puppy has had enough as they will lay down and fall fast asleep, unless you force them to stay awake, which I wouldn't recommend. Obviously an older puppy would need much more exercise than a younger puppy, say if the puppy was near adulthood such as 9-12 months old. Even if this is a young puppy, it should start basic obedience training, such as learning a simple command to start with such as *sit.* You can also start leash training a young puppy, but keep the puppy on your own property when training, and don't take it out in public places until it's fully vaccinated. Training sessions should be short and several times per day. If this puppy is 8-10 weeks old for example, keep the training sessions to 5-10 minutes, and train 3-4 times per day. Everything is new for a young puppy, so it should be learning it's name and housebreaking should be most important right now. Like I said, when the puppy is all tuckered out, it will let you know when it's had enough and will want to take a nap. If you are playing with the puppy or training, make sure you take it outside to *potty* when you're done, before it takes a nap, and then take it outside again as soon as it wakes up. I don't think there's an exact science to how much exercise a puppy needs because every puppy is different, and sometimes that can depend on the breed. Again and in general, puppies do sleep a lot, and that shouldn't be disturbed.

Minimum elimination time (walking) every 1-2 hours, 30-40 minutes each time, plus two sessions of aerobic exercise, such as playing fetch, 20-30 minutes each time, daily regardless of weather conditions, how you maybe feeling (tired/sick/busy), and other obligations such as school, homework, extracurricular activities, childcare (if applicable), household chores, work and social life. An empty/tired dog is a good dog.
Once fully matured it still requires a minimum of 3-4 walks (elimination time) daily and increase the aerobic exercise to 3-4 times daily, 20-30 minutes each time.
