Should the US military replace the m16 and M4 family of rifles?

I've seen a lot of questions like- when will the M16 and m4 get replaced and with what? however I am wondering why should it be replaced ? From my understanding the biggest changes in weapons technology since the the m16 first went into service has been the devices attached to the gun and not the guns themselves.

There are better weapons out there. But none that so outperform the M16 series that it would justify the cost of replacing them and completely overhauling our current logistics train for them.

In my opinion, I think they should. Both the M16A4 and the M4A1 are over twenty years old and, while reliable, need replaced just like every other weapon gets replaced after a certain amount of time. The SCAR is better, more modern, and less clumsy.

The M16's pretty much been replaced by the M4 anyway, and the M4 is a top-quality weapon.

Yes, with a copy of the Galil. The AK-47 was the best rifle in the world before the Israelis copied and improved it

There are much better weapons out the, but the final say lies with some senator in Congress.
