During active (awake hours) probably every 30 to 60 minutes if 8 weeks old. Puppies will need to go outside to potty (ASAP) when: they wake up, as soon after they EAT (as possible) & after a play session. If you are crate-training them (beside your bed or in your bedroom) - which I HIGHLY suggest, then the puppy should only need to go out once or twice per night, overnight. Once the puppy is 12 weeks old it should be able to go ALL night, w/o needing to go out and should be able to hold its urine 3 hours, during the day, if crated.

Depends on how old he is. If he's like 4 weeks, he needs to go out every 30 minutes and it'll be hit or miss whether or not he actually manages to go outside, or finally decides to pee when you bring him back in, because he doesn't really have that much control over it or the mental capacity to understand housebreaking.

If he's >8 weeks, I'd start with every half hour for a day or so, until he gets the idea, then extend it to 45 minutes, an hour, an hour and a half, 2 hours, gradually over time. He'll need to go more often at first until he learns that peeing outside is good, peeing inside isn't. Also take him out after drinking, eating, sleeping, or rough play.

LOL, seems like every waking moment. The smaller the dog, the smaller the bladder, the more often they need to pee, especially as puppies.

Take the dog out every two hours, walk him around so he HAS to go in spite of being distracted by everything outside, and get to learn his schedule.

Not the pups job to tell you when it has to go, your job to train it properly and provide sufficient daily elimination times. Minimum every 1-2 hours, 30-40 minutes each time.
