What will happen in Republican contested convention?

If none of the Republican candidates get the needed 1237 delegates and contested convention happens, now what?

Even if Trump has the most delegates, can Republicans still block him? We all know they hate him and they hate Cruz, they're also not fans of Kasich, so is it possible they'll nominate a Romney possibly?

Lets say for sake of argument Republicans decide to nominate a third party guy like Mitt Romney. What will happen to Republican party and will the people revolt?

We don't know what will happen, but it all could turn out better for Republicans in some scenarios, and damage them permanently in others.

It could turn out better if Trump and Cruz brokered a deal that made them a ticket by the second ballot. That will show the voters that all Republicans would be united on one issue: winning the White House.

If they go with someone other than one of the two leading delegate accumulators, expect a new party to be formed from the Republican Party, the same way the Republican Party arose from the ashes of the Whig Party in the 1850's.

Technically, the Republicans can do what they want at the convention. The rules committee can rewrite the rules at any time up until then. But if they don't go along with the will of the people during the primary process, they can legitimately be accused of trying to sidestep the will of the people to install someone else that the party leadership finds more acceptable. And that's just one way that the Republican party might disintegrate.

If Trump falls short of the magic number, they take a 2nd vote. This time, many "pledged" delegates are free to vote their preferences. If they handpick a nominee, this will go over like a lead balloon. He'd be crucified on social media, giving the election to Hillary. (I hear many big RepDonor$ would prefer Hillary to Trump)

    "will the people revolt" ?

a lot of Trump supporters will vote for Hillary just to give a big FU to the GOP

Hillary will CRUSH ANY one the GOP puts up if they pull that crap

the ONLY chance the GOP has to defeat Hillary is to go with Trump

yeah, I've seen the polls that say Trump will lose to Hillary

    They're BS

these are the same polls that said Trump would never get this far

Delegates are only committed for the first ballot. After that, they're all free to change their votes. Then we'll see what happens.

The leaders (establishment) has no choice but to hand the country over to Hilary, by dividing the voters up.

If u peeple had been obedient and just nominated Jeb, like u were supposed to, none of this wud be necessary.

Isn't Trump already advocating riots if that happens. At least this time it won't be the black neighborhoods.

Yes, all those things are possible. It seems to me that if they do that, Trump will run on a third-party ticket and all his "fans" will go with him. The GOP seems to be splitting apart at the seams.

Apparently Trump's supporters will whip out the long knives if the party doesn't do as they say.
