Recently, Jimmy Carter said, We no longer live in a Republic. Can we stop calling it a Democracy? He's right. In 2008, we were number 12 (out of 172 nations) in Freedom. Today, we are number 33. We can vote, but a contested convention will take your votes & give it to whomever the leadership pleases. Even if you voted for their man, your vote doesn't get counted. The delegates are given away. Now, do you see why there may be riots?

When voting is banned we will not live in a democracy. Unless that happens you're playing a word denial game.
Democracy - Citizens vote. Republic - Citizens vote for representatives. Federal republic - Sovereignty is share by states that are republics and the fed that is a republic. Hybrid federal republic - One house the Senators are elected by the states. The other house the Representatives are elected by the people. The US was a hybrid federal republic type democracy until the 17th Amendment.

The USA is Post Constitution. Americans don't realize that either. Federal Government is for the corporations n elites not the people. Yes they still get to vote for who will represent coroporations n wall street and keep the military complex going. CIA and Federal Reserve runs this country. Russia is the Super Power now buy rubles. Don't forget americans you voted for Congress that passed a law the President can legally kill anyone he wishes. Nice good thing your vote counts. Lol

Reading the Constitution, no where does it state that we live in a democracy but it does state that we live in a Republic.
Everyone is under the assumption that we are democracy but we are not.

Given that effectively every citizen has the right to vote and express his opinion in that manner, I find it hard to understand your point. A representative democracy it may be, and it may be far from perfect, but it remains a democracy.

Uh. If america was suddenly NOT a democracy then that would probably convince them pretty well

Our system of government is based on wealthy people buying privileges from the government. Voting doesn't mean much, because most of the people who vote don't understand much about what their votes will accomplish, but just what they heard in sound bites. The more money you have, the more you can influence public opinion with sound bites, to manipulate people into voting your way. So it's basically a government of the wealthy.

Tell them that real democracies (like Athens) fill all office with lotteries, because any citizen is as good as any other citizen.
