Has anyone had this problem with their dog?

So yesterday morning, my dog was experiencing some strange symptoms. He was hiding underneath the bed and wouldn't come out. When I finally got him to, I felt him shaking and his belly was really hard. I took him to the vet and she suspected that he had pancreatitis and suggested he spend the 24 hours in the hospital with some IV fluids and pain medication. I kept calling every few hours to check up on him, the techs kept saying that he was doing very well. I got a call from the doctor this afternoon saying that his belly seemed to be feeling better and that he was good to go home. When he came home, he is just not himself. He doesn't want any of his toys, he still doesn't want to eat, he's not even mooching for table scraps. It's almost like he doesn't know who I am. Anyone who had to have their dog spend the night in the hospital, have they acted like this? How long until he should return to normal?

It is not uncommon for a patient that has been hospitalized with pancreatitis to be less active and off his normal food, however you should contact your vet just to be sure it is not more serious than than.

You should also not be feeding table scraps and a change in diet can cause pancreatitis. At this point your vet probably wants your dog on a bland diet for a few days (either a prescription dog food designed for dogs with gastrointestinal issues or something like boiled chicken and rice). Again, you should talk to your vet about an appropriate diet for your pet.

Why aren't you asking the vet? We can's possibly know. Do you even know what the diagnosis was? And if not, why not? This dog obviously needs a vet - one who didn't graduate at the bottom of the class and will actually find out what's wrong with the dog, not just put him on meds, then send him home.

No, I've never experienced that because I wouldn't allow a vet to be that incompetent.

Maybe he isn't fully recovered yet. Maybe the experience has left him feeling a bit odd, and I mean mentally, not physically. Ever been in hospital? Did you feel totally normal the instant they discharged you? If he doesn't start acting more normal by tomorrow, call the vet.

Call to the vet that saw your dog and ask them.
