Get the book Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew. Excellent book are raised garden. You should also look into putting a green house around it. The cheapest way is to get plastic pipe and bend it into a 'U' shape anchor it to the raised bed and cover with clear plastic to extend your season. You use snap clips to hold the plastic on. Here is a picture of what I mean on Amazon.

I love raised beds, make the most of them and cram the plants in, I put a trellis down the middle and planted 4 rows of sugar snap peas down the middle if a pea can have another pea 2 inches north it can have another row 2 inches west, then on each side I place broccoli, cauliflower and brussel sprouts 2 ft apart, between them I throw in a few carrots, radishes, lettuce, and flowers.
