Raising the minimum wage isn't entirely beneficial. It could potentially lead to more unemployment as some businesses may reduce the number of employees (or entirely replace them with automation options) or reduce their hours in order to offset the cost of paying a higher minimum wage. Some may also increase the prices of products or services offered. It can also possibly lead to a decreased interest in college education since minimum wage jobs are paid almost the same or can be more than what jobs requiring college education pay.

On the bright side, there is greater purchasing power for workers with the revenue going back to businesses they patronize and products or services they avail of or purchase. They may be able to afford more in terms of living expenses and other expenditures like mortgage, bills, education, etc.

In relation to the minimum wage issue, here's a list of interesting articles, http://bitly.com/1geGNXP.

Things start to cost more if you raise it too much, I mean it makes sense to raise it in places like San fanciso and that's why they already have like 15 an hour minimum wage, but the effects in a place where the cost of living is low to raise it too 15 would be disastrous. I am not opposed to raising the minimum wage to 10 bucks an hour in my state, where we have 8 an hour.

People will be able to buy stuff where they work. Wages are so low that Walmart is losing customers. For some reason conservatives believe that if you put your foot on the neck of 47% of the country that is American Exceptionalism. Even though the rich like Paris Hilton pay $50K for a dog, they only buy ONE OF THEM! Until more people have more money the economy will not grow.

    let me ask you this:

let's say you owned a fast-food franchise and you needed to fill about 30 hours worth of shifts spread out over days, nights and weekends for a given week.. you interview five candidates:

1...is a single mom, age 24, who is desperately trying to make ends meet. She already has one other job and between that and her kids, she can only commit to about 16 hours a week and cannot work nights.

2...is a college student, age 19, who is looking for part-time work to help pay her bills. She can work any night but no days and may or may not go home once Summer comes in a few months.

3...is a struggling actor, age 22,who needs spending money and flexible hours to accommodate his audition schedule. He says he can work any shift, but might have to switch with other workers if he gets called for an audition or an acting gig.

4...is a high school senior, age 17. His parents earn too much to qualify for tuition grants but not enough to ensure that they can pay for his college. He desperately wants a job to save for his dream of college. He can work any weekend, day or night, but no weekdays and only a couple nights because of his studies.

5... is a 34 year old mother of two who gets government support for her kids. She never graduated high school and has no dreams of any other jobs. She's just looking for steady job and can work every one of the 30 hours per week needed, regardless of day or time.

Now, knowing that you will have to pay liability insurance for every employee hired, and knowing that it costs you money to train every new employee, and knowing that the wage they command will be the equivalent of a $30K per year salary....which would you hire?

Would you give the minimum wage job to #5 because you know she will show up for work every day....or would you hire a mix & match of 1 thru 4..knowing that you'll have to pay additional training, deal with their erratic schedules and probably have to hire and re-train replacements in a few months?

Now.... care to guess who minimum wage regulations were designed to most protect and benefit?

Rising prices. Do you really think the big corporations will cut into their profits to pay their slaves more? Just ask Trump this one. He's a slave owner.

To combat the rising prices, more work will go overseas or to Mexico, and more illegals will be needed to work for less money per hour.

Nothing is free. When a politician "gives" you something, expect to pay a lot for it.

You'll have more grown adults earning wages they don't deserve. These MW jobs are for teens and seniors who only need a little pocket change here and there, it should really be $5, not $7.25 (where I live).

People who need to feed their family need to better themselves and use their skills to earn better wage.

If minimum wage is below equilibrium point of supply and demand of labor, nothing. If it's above, it will create an artificial job shortage.
