Car won't start at first, is this indicative of a larger problem?

So my car won't start at first when I try to turn it over as if it has a dead battery. No clicking or trying to turn over. Then after a minute it starts like normal. I searched online but couldn't find anything about this. Or perhaps I didn't search for the right thing. Is this indicative of a larger problem? I want to sell this car but that is worrying me and I don't want to pass a big problem off on someone else. Its a 2007 Kia Rio.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

When it won't crank turn the key back and forth repeatedly from the on position to the start position a dozen times to see if that gets the starter to work. If it does you need the electrical switch that screws onto the ignition switch assembly. The contacts go bad.If you have a manual transmission make sure a rug is not bunched up keeping the clutch pedal from going all the way down to the floor. That keeps the clutch pedal safety switch from working.

Get the battery charged and load tested. Get the battery terminals replaced, clean or replace the ground connection in the battery. Have a shop check the connections on the starter and do a "voltage drop" check on the wire from the +terminal of the battery to the starter. Replace the wire if the voltage drop is more than 0.2 volts.

When the car does not start, try wiggling the key at the Start position. If the car starts, the ignition switch is bad.

I have a 2001 Chevrolet Impala and I had a similar problem. I had to replace the "crank relay". It cost about $20 from Advance Auto Parts. No problems since.

More than likely, either the ignitions switch,or the starter solenoid, are failing. These are relatively easy to repair.

Something like this CAN be as simple as dirty or loose AND dirty battery cable connections. Check it out and let us know. Good luck.
