Imagine you have dug a hole that is 1016.16 feet deep (negative)

Now you are removing an additional 6300 feet of dirt. (subtracting a positive).

Is the result that you are in a hole 7316.16 feet deep (negative) or that you are standing on a mound of dirt that is 7316.16 feet high (positive)?

    Mathematically:

    (-1016.16) - (6300)

    = -7316.16

    Answer:

    The final result is negative.

  • negative 7316.16 as DW has explained
