Is Rock Dead?
Yes it's dead, it's been slowly choked to death. Coldplay is not real Rock, U2 is not real Rock, Radiohead is not real Rock, there's nothing left. There are no Rock Stars left either.

I think it's relative to the listener. My teen years began just before Pink Floyd released the album "Meddle" in 1971. In my childhood I grew to like the 50's rock sound, some 60's Motown, and the hippie rock of the late 60's. The 70's were the times I listened to a lot of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Who, BTO, Grand Funk Railroad, Deep Purple to name a few.
To me, every genre evolves, but none more than rock and roll. The definition of it has morphed several times or spawned many sub-genres. Technically speaking, some folks could say it's still alive and be right, while others could say it's dead and also be correct. Depends on how you look at it.
Hard for me to say because I consider the early 1990's grunge sound to be the last vestiges of the rock and roll I came to know. For a while there, I was really into the Metallica "black" album but I was never into metal. White Zombie's first two albums were impressive that way. But I havent bought a new album since "Astrocreep". Effectively, yes, the rock and roll I like is dead. Like I said, others will disagree and won't be wrong.

Plenty of good rock bands, don't expect to find them in the top 40 though because only the pop-rock bands are in the mainstream. Best way to find bands you might like is to use spotify or last fm. The problem isn't the bands fault it's the people who publicise it, everything from screamo to indie get's labelled as rock music, so it just seems like every band sucks. Some good modern-ish rock bands would be :
Audioslave
Airbourne
Foo Fighters
The Bronx
Tenacious D
The Accidents
Queens Of The Stone Age
Kvelertak (they do scream and lyrics are in Norwegian, but their general sound is like a mix of punk, metal and classic rock and roll)
Wolf mother
The Offspring
Stone Temple Pilots
to get you started
plenty of earlier bands in the 90's but these are the closest to modern

No wonder you think rock is dead. You're only looking at bands like Coldplay and U2.

I agree there is no one left they are all dying out now and nobody has come along to take their place but we have to move on and embrace new music with the occasional sad tear for the giants of rock music who could actually play their instruments

Hallelujah! Rock no longer in the clutches of mainstream can finally get back to making music instead of filling the pockets of the music industry elites!

Spoken like a true 14 year old tool. Good rock music is very much alive. You're just too stupid to find it.

That's why it's better now. Underground labels aren't controlling and musicians can be as creative as they want without having to worry about if it would appeal to plebs.

Yes there is. Blind Guardian released a new album last year and there are so many magazines.
