How do I get out of taking this job my dad wants for me?

My dad is pushing me to follow in his footsteps and work for the same company as him. It would be a paid internship that I take during my senior year of high school, and after high school it would become a full time career. I would take only half the school day and then just leave in the middle of it for work. It s easy to explain why I don t want to work there. It s boring as all hell, having a half schedule for high school limits my amount of education, and the application process is grueling because I m applying for a job at Google. Yes haha it sounds like that Internship movie with Owen Wilson. I could just join for the internship and quit before it becomes a job, but I don t want to even start the internship in the first place (for embarrassing reasons I ll keep to myself).

I ve tried making up a story that if I take a half schedule, i won t have enough credits to graduate. However, he s just told me to go to summer school. I ve considered telling him that I haven t been accepted to the program, but he would want to look at the rejection email to make sure I m not lying (he knows I don t want to get this job). I need a quick way out of this.

Just tell your father the truth, that you do not want to work there and that you have different aspirations for your life. You might also want to explain to him what your embarrasing reasons are for not even applying there.

without knowing what kind of job it is, no idea. would your school even allow something like that? and summer school won;t help you. tell him you have to to stay in school and graduate
