Scared of insects and got arachnophobia, want to join the army though.?
I am dead scared of insects and arachnids. I'm not scared of bears, tigers or snakes. I am wondering what will happen to me if I want to join the army. I'm willing to get over my fears to help people as a Medic is the role I want to apply for, but I feel like I'll be paralyzed when I see one..
Are there any tips I can get on overcoming this phobia? I have been using breathing techniques and muscle relaxation when doing things such as encountering fears, so I already know about that.

For those in the UK, this is supposed to be a government website for more info re: mental illness, which may include phobias, and helplines to seek outside professional help:

A licensed mental health professional may help those with phobias, especially by utilizing cognitive-behavioral therapy (cbt), which deals with how one's thoughts affect behavior. The cbt for those with a phobia(s) may include "exposure therapy." For instance, for those with arachnophobia (fear of spiders), the therapist may first show the patient a photo of a spider, and the patient will deal with the anxiety levels when looking at that photo. Then the individual with arachnophobia may be asked to look at a spider in its cage and the level of anxiety when doing so. Eventually, the spider may be brought out of its cage and talk about the anxiety levels, too.

we always fear what we know nothing about, and don't fear what we believe we understand.
you may think you aren't afraid of bears, but you've probably only seen the cute wholesome Animal Planet bears, which are wacky at best. REAL bears can tear a man in half in a matter of seconds...
read up on some insects and spiders, and watch some YouTube vids. you'd be surprized how much less harmful they are than, say, a baboon, who will rip your face off for no real reason, then go play with it.
