Why did China build that "Great Wall of China"?

The Northern Defensive system was a series of garrison forts, ditches, dykes and walls built to protect China from marauders from the norther. The great plains of Mongolia are home to the horse people who, thanks to horses, could easily raid the towns and villages to the south and ride away. The "wall" was built to stop this happening.

But there are other reasons to build a wall. It is a great way to collect taxes. Rather than people trading as they like, all goods going through the wall attract a tax.

The wall was also used as a road by which both armies and trade could travel. This was especially true in the mountainous regions where a wall is not needed to keep people out (the mountains do that), but it means there is a path to travel over those mountains.

China built Great Wall of China to remain safe from enemies aggression .

From intruders ofcourse. Like Mexicans in USA atm, only back then it was mongols I think
