Is it safe for squirrels to eat bread?
Last week my mom put out some stale wheat bread in a couple smaller trees next to our house/porch for the birds. But the birds never got it because there s this squirrel that likes to venture really close to our house that found it. And ever since, he s been coming back to our porch to feast on bread. He s really quirky and adorable. My mom and I named him Cornelius. We ve been leaving him a slice of bread since.
But the more I got thinking about it, the more I wondered if bread was really safe for squirrels to eat?? So yesterdsy I put a strawberry out with the bread. Soon enough, he came and ate the bread but he didn t touch the strawberry. I figured he must ve been full and that he d come back later for the strawberry. He did come back to scout for bread but he still refused to eat the strawberry. I put apple out today with the bread and he did the same thing.
Cornelius really seems to like bread but is it good for him?

He'll be fine, squirrels have a very wide-spread diet. If the bread had made him feel bad or if it hurt him then he would likely stop eating all of it.
You can look up what are the diets of squirrels are so that you can tell what he would and wouldn't eat.
