Can anyone offer any chapter of the Bible that says infants should not be baptized?

Update:

I am not suggesting that denominations that want to withhold the grace of baptism from infants cannot do so if they choose. i am simple pointing out that to do so is a man-made tradition within your faith and not defined in scripture. So it is not Sola Scriptura, it is a tradition.

Jesus did not teach that infants should be baptized. Why is that fact significant?

Consider: Jesus earnestly taught his disciples about God’s requirements.

At times, he repeated key teachings. Why? To ensure that his disciples grasped the point.

Yet, not even once did he teach that infants should be baptized.

Did Jesus somehow forget to mention the requirement? Impossible! Surely, if infants must be baptized, Jesus would have said so.

baptism is a serious step. Baptizing an infant is wrong because a baby cannot understand, make a decision, and become a disciple. Matthew 28:19, 20

Those baptized during Philip’s ministry in Samaria were “men and women,” not mere infants. Acts 8:4-8, 12

Baptism is for those old enough to learn, believe, and exercise faith.

Jesus’ words at Matthew 28:19, 20 show that it is those who have been made his disciples that should be baptized.

Hence, it follows that no infant or small child could meet the Scriptural requirements for baptism.

An infant could not exercise faith in God’s Word, in God the Creator, and in his Son Jesus Christ.

An infant could not understand that the holy spirit is God’s active force; nor could it repent of past sins and make a solemn vow to do God’s will.

If a person does not believe, they are hindered from being baptized. (Acts 8:36-37)

Besides, can you offer any verse from the Bible that authorizes infant baptism?

"Whatsoever you do in word or deed, do ALL in the name of (according to the authority of) the Lord Jesus." (Colossians 3:17) How can you do something in your religion according to the authority of Jesus if He did not authorize (instruct) it?

I can show book, chapter and verse for believer's baptism; including commands and examples (many times with the names of the people who were baptized).

Show me either a command or an example in the New Testament of an infant being baptized. If you can't, then you are practicing something without authority from Jesus Christ. You are not doing it "in the name of Jesus Christ".

What right do you have to authorize something that Jesus did not?

The Bible does not say that infants should or should not be baptized, everyone who believes in Jesus and repents can be and should be baptized, as infants can't make that decision until older age baptizing them is totally pointless, since they will have to be baptized at an older age once they make the decision for themselves, one cannot make the decision for someone else, only each for himself or herself.

How can a baby confess it's sins when it has not sinned, how can it accept Jesus when it doesn't understand him or his teaching?

So this should end all arguements

Baptism is about an outward sign of faith. It comes after repentance, confession, real belief in Christ. Infants aren't capable of that so what is the point?

Even Jesus had an age of accountability. He wasn't baptized as an infant. Isa. 7:15, 16.

No, because the Bible indicates infants should be baptized. Baptism has replaced circumcision, and circumcision was administered to infants. Read:

    Colossians 2:11-12

"In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead."

I have to confess, I was baptized as a baby. It was painless. In fact, I don't even remember it. This happened because I was raised in a Lutheran home. We later switched to Baptist.

The bible makes it pretty clear. We need to "believe" and be "baptized." Babies do not yet comprehend spiritual things. They only have one thing on their mind: "Where's my milk?"

I view baby baptism today as more of a baby dedication. Which is really a commitment of the parents and congregation that this child will be raised in a Christian home with Christian values, etc.

No. Similarly I don't think anyone can offer a chapter that says kangaroos should not be baptized. So your point is?

Can an infant make a choice to become a Christian?

Baptism is something we do after we're saved in obedience to Christ, as a testimony to others that we have put our faith in Jesus. It symbolizes what already happened in our heart that we died to ourself and our sins, and were raised to a new life in Jesus Christ. It is an outward sign of an inward change. It is evidence of repentance. Since baptism is something we do out of obedience to Christ after we're saved, babies should not be baptized because they are not choosing to do it out of obedience and they have not yet put their faith in Jesus. (By the way, if a baby dies, they will go to heaven because God knows that they don't yet know enough to be held accountable).

Quite the reverse. "Whole households" were baptized. However, babies are not specifically mentioned. But, they were not specifically excluded either. There is nothing to say that they should not be baptized.
