How do you pass an interview?

I'm 26 years old and jobless because I can't seem to get past the interview stage. For the past 6 years I was a full-time college student (started out at community college and them transferred), but now that I'm out of school and have open availa bility, I can't even land a job.

Is it because I'm not outgoing enough? I try to fake it as much as possible (I'm actually shy and introverted), but it doesn't seem to work. I'm more of a show than tell person--I know I can do the job required of me, but jobs seem to judge whether I can do the job by the way I speak.

I shall ask you some questions as part of my answer. The following list of questions is far from complete.

    1) Are you enthusiastic about the job when you are being interviewed? Enthusiasm shines through even if you are introverted. When I was in secondary school and applied for a job as a lab assistant I got the job because of my enthusiasm even though I knew nothing about working in a hospital. lab. (and yes I tend to be a little introverted)

    2) Are you applying for positions that you are actually interested in? If you are not overly interested the interviewer picks that up.

    3) When you are asked questions do you think about the question before answering or do you tend to give an answer straight away?

    4) If you are not sure of what the interviewer is asking do you ask the person to clarify the question?

    5) Do you do any research on the company regarding salary ranges, etc. before the interview. One time I went for a job interview and managed to get my starting salary bumped up and I told the interviewer the salary wasn't enough to cover petrol expenses. My starting salary was bumped up.

    6) When the interviewer asks you questions are your questions limited to salary and benefits? Are your answers to the interviewers questions monosyllabic or do you give extended answers?

    7) What do you wear to the interview? Do you look professional as many potential employers don't really like a candidate wearing nose rings, having bizarre haircuts, sandals, etc. Are your interview clothes clean and neatly pressed? What about personal hygiene?

    8) Having a successful interview is a skill so how much practice do you put in? After an interview do you make notes about the interview because if you don't you should?

    9) During the actual interview do you make it a point to address the person by their name? Do you shake the person's hand? At the end of the interview do you thank the person for seeing you?

Interviewers are highly skilled in "reading" people and if you try to fake it they certainly notice. You might just as well wear a giant neon sign advertising that you are faking it.

If you are not confident interviewers pick that up too.

In general from the moment you enter the interview room and sit down (which is no longer 30 seconds) the interviewer has made a judgement.

Sometimes you will face a group of interviewers and one of the purposes of this type of interview is to see how you act under pressure. A friend of mine once had an interview like this and he kept his jacket on even though the room was stifling because the air conditioning wasn't working. . He got the job and the reason he kept his jacket on was because his wife hadn't ironed his shirt and he didn't the interviewers to see the wrinkles. (keeping calm under pressure was how the interviewers saw this).

    Hope the above helps.

First you need a suit, doesn't matter the job you need to wear a suit! Now that your looking the part you need to act it. Shoulders straight, need good posture. Eyes straight forward, not down. If you shake their hand look them in the eyes, a firm handshake no weak ones. Act confident yet not too confident still act a bit timid to be in their presence to show you know your place. Be friendly! This one is important if someone is more friendly and works better with others employers will want to hire them. Smile. Research the company, but do not act like a know it all. Ask questions to show how much you have been thinking about this job. Overall be yourself you have to be comfortable when your nervous and uncomfortable people catch on quick, so being yourself helps this. Keep it professional. Also McDonald's is always hiring and you get free lunch.

tell them you are an introvert right away...no need to fake being an extrovert....world is full of introverted geniuses. I would employ you the moment you say " I'm more of a show than tell person" make it your punch line and ask your employer to just give you one chance to prove your "Show than tell" point

    Good luck

I'm not shy, i'm more nervous (anxiety). But i don't see the world as you see the world, so its hard for me to answer questions like this when they ask me ' so what brings you hear' i don't want a job really but i say something off mind without thinking then they ask me to leave.

I don't want to disclose this. It is a top secret.
