Question about pay day?
This is my first time at a job so I don't know how pay day works, but pay day at my job is every other Friday. I don't have any work shifts on Friday. Do I just show up to collect my paycheck or something? When are paychecks usually given out on pay day? After a shift? I have work on Saturday so can I also collect my paycheck tomorrow or can I only collect my paycheck on pay day?
6 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment5 years agoIs making $360 a month little?
I work 18 hours a week and get paid $10 per hour. My paycheck is every 2 weeks, so 18 hours x 2 weeks × $10 = $360. Is this little?

3 AnswersFood Service5 years agoBacking out of a job offer?
Last Friday I went to interview at two places. Since the 2nd place offered me a job first, I accepted it because I thought I wouldn't get a job with the 1st place since I generally have bad luck with interviews. But the next day, the 1st place I interviewed with offered me a position with them. This job position is more in line with my college major than the 2nd job position so I want to decline the 2nd job. Should I tell the 2nd job that I want to back out of the offer?
1 AnswerOther - Careers & Employment5 years agoHow do you pass an interview?
I'm 26 years old and jobless because I can't seem to get past the interview stage. For the past 6 years I was a full-time college student (started out at community college and them transferred), but now that I'm out of school and have open availa bility, I can't even land a job.
Is it because I'm not outgoing enough? I try to fake it as much as possible (I'm actually shy and introverted), but it doesn't seem to work. I'm more of a show than tell person--I know I can do the job required of me, but jobs seem to judge whether I can do the job by the way I speak.
5 AnswersPsychology5 years agoI messed up badly on Barnes and Noble phone interview. Am I screwed?
The call totally came unexpected so I wasn t prepared. In all honesty, I thought I d never get an interview since my past online applications have been rejected before so I was surprised I even got through to a phone interview this time. But because I was unprepared, I ended up stuttering, mumbling, and sounding flat. I also answered questions such as "why should we hire you" awkwardly. For example I blurted out that I have good memory skills and that I know the store like the back of my hand, which doesn t say anything about how well I d do on the job.
B&N is one of those places I wanted to work at but after my failure of an interview does that mean I m screwed? I have phone anxiety so phone interviews are the worst for me
7 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment5 years agoHow to get back my writing spark?
I don't know what happened, but I seem to have lost all spark for writing. It's strange because when I was younger, I loved to write, whether it was short stories, fanfiction, poetry, etc. I even had a high school literature teacher tell me that I had the potential for a career in writing. Yet now I've lost all that creative spark. The only type of writing I can do now is boring, dry academic essay writing. My creative juice is practically nonexistent now compared to when I was younger.
2 AnswersBooks & Authors5 years agoHaving trouble coming up with job references?
I can't ask any previous employers since I have never held a job before, and I'm apprehensive about asking my former professors since I never really put myself out there in my classes for them to know my name and face (I was that painfully shy kid who sits at the back of the classroom and doesn't talk ever).
And while I've done volunteer work, I can't really ask previous volunteer supervisors for references since I either 1) don't have their contact information or 2) they probably don't remember me or know who I am since I didn't really do anything outstanding or worth noticing other than just doing what I'm supposed to do.

3 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment5 years agoNo interview?
I applied to be a busser at a restaurant 2 days ago and got an email asking if I could come in for an interview yesterday, but when I came in and told a host at the host table that I had a scheduled interview there, they just gave me an application form to fill out. I did just that and gave it to them, and instead of giving me an interview, they just said they d call me? Does that mean they re not interested in hiring me?
1 AnswerOther - Careers & Employment5 years agoFafsa household size?
I am 25, legally independent, have no children of my own, and live in a household with my mother and sister, but when I put in my household size as 3 members, the form gave me this error message:
You said that the student is not married, and the student does not have children or legal dependents, but you reported that the student's number of family members is greater than one. Change one of the following answers.
Even though there are 3 people including me in my household, do my mother and sister not count in the number of family members?

1 AnswerLanguages5 years agoAsking a professor for job reference when I never communicated with them outside of class?
Has anyone been in this situation? I m a shy person with social anxiety, so I never interacted with any of my professors outside of class. Even in class, the only interaction I have with them is asking for clarification on things like due dates. Would they reject my request to use them as reference just because we never spoke with each other?
1 AnswerSingles & Dating6 years agoCan jet lag cause oversleeping?
I came back from a 12 hr flight from Seoul, South Korea to California on Monday, and ever since then my sleep schedule has been messed up, with me sleeping in for most of the day and being awake at night. Yesterday I went to sleep at around midnight, but then I woke up for an hour at 3am because I couldn't sleep. I'm not sure when I fell back asleep, but when I woke up, it happened to be 7pm at night the next day! That's like almost 17 hours of oversleep!

1 AnswerOther - General Health Care6 years agoStudy abroad programs for college graduates?
By college graduates, I mean those who've graduated from an undergraduate program, but haven't gone on/aren't going to graduate school.
Throughout my undergraduate education, I've been unable to participate in any study abroad programs because of other classes I needed to take to fulfill major and graduation requirements. Since I was a transfer student from a community college, my time was limited since I was expected to graduate within 2-3 years. Because some of the classes I needed were offered only during certain quarters, I could not go on any study abroad programs because if I did, I would have missed my chances of taking and getting major credit in those classes.
Now that I will be graduating at the end of Spring, I will have time to study abroad, but I don't know what programs are there for recent graduates like me. Every university study abroad program I know of only takes in undergraduate students who are currently enrolled or will be enrolled in university, or students who are actually in graduate school. There's nothing for undergraduate alumni. I really want to go study abroad in Japan to hone my Japanese skills (was a Japanese major in college)
2 AnswersStudying Abroad6 years agoHow long does it take for international wire transfer to go through?
It's been a week since I made a transfer to South Korea to pay for my summer abroad tuition there, and I haven't had any confirmation from the other side that it's been received.
2 AnswersStudying Abroad6 years agoIs grad school worth it for what I want to pursue (translation/interpretation)?
I'm currently a Japanese major in undergrad and want to pursue a job in translation after I get my bachelor's degree. However, my GPA is too low for graduate school (personal problems got in the way of my studying) and it's too late to raise it now that I'm in my last quarter before graduation. My question here is, do I REALLY need to go to graduate school if all I want to do is translation work? Will I be less considered for translation jobs just because I don't have a Masters in foreign language translation/interpretation? Is being ATA (American Translator Association)-certified just as good as getting a Translation/Interpretation Masters?
3 AnswersHigher Education (University +)6 years agoChronic motor tic disorder and job interviews?
I've been having these motor tics (compulsive eye blinking, eye rolling, raising eyes toward ceiling, eye squinting, head jerking, neck twisting--sometimes these can all occur at the same time in a single second) since I was 10 years old. Though my condition is present among those with Tourettes Syndrome, I do not have Tourettes as my tics are limited to my eyes only, and in order for me to have Tourettes, I would have to have at least one vocal tics which I don't. Anyhow, now that I am an adult and about to graduate from college, I am concerned that I will have trouble getting a job with these tics, because job interviewers will see me doing these tics and think I'm purposely being rude when I don't intend to be.
Here's a video example of my predicament that I found on Youtube:
