Backing out of a job offer?

Last Friday I went to interview at two places. Since the 2nd place offered me a job first, I accepted it because I thought I wouldn't get a job with the 1st place since I generally have bad luck with interviews. But the next day, the 1st place I interviewed with offered me a position with them. This job position is more in line with my college major than the 2nd job position so I want to decline the 2nd job. Should I tell the 2nd job that I want to back out of the offer?

Sure. Just have the decency to call the hiring manager directly and inform them.

Be brief, say that you regret needing to do this and sincerely appreciate them giving you an offer, but an offer that is more in line with your career objectives came in and you think it is a better option for you.
