The derivative of a linear function is just the slope.

    f(x) = -5x + 12

    f'(x) = -5

So for any value of x, the answer is always -5

    f'(10) = -5

The derivative of a constant (horizontal line) will always be zero (no slope):

    f(x) = 200

    f'(x) = 0

Again, regardless of the value of x, the answer is always 0.

    f'(10) = 0
