SSI transferable to Washington from California?
A friend's autistic brother in an untenable living situation in California; friend would like to move his brother to Washington state, where he lives. Brother is getting SSI, medicaid and a California supplement. How much of those benefits are likely to be available to him in Washington, and how long is it likely to take to get approval there?

The federal benefit is easy. His SSI will continue without interruption. He needs a new bank account if there are no branches/ATMs for that bank near where he will live in Washington.
In Washington is you are on SSI you automatically get Medicaid. So as soon as you notify SSA they will notify the state.

no, welfare programs do not "transfer" from state to state. He will have to inform his caseworker in CA of his move, then go reapply in washington
