Theists: When did you begin to believe in your god? What, specifically, convinced you?

I'm an atheist now, but when I was Catholic I believed in my God because my parents believed and taught me to believe. I just accepted it without question.

I believe in a child's God in childhood. I don't even recall what combination of Dad and the pastor I had in mind when I thought of God.

Being away from home and surrounded by evangelical Christianity deepmd my faith in God by seing more clearly the differences between their God and mine. I took on different appreciation of my childhood's God.

That is not the God that I now know or the God I know is more than that.

My belief in God after childhood became intellectually based. Aquinas, other Dominican Scholastics. As a young ambitious professional I had plans for power and influence in my local church and expanded my intellectual religiousity reading the theologians of Vatican II and just prior. My belief in God then was strong. This was the God of philosophy, especially Catholic.

After life upheavals and change in direction (re?)discovered prayer and actively passed my faith on to my children. More political and intellectual than a God to pray to. I am making final corrections to that as they are adults now and almost independent of me.

I believe God because of many experiences in life. Also because it is a feeling and an emotion that cannot be simply conveyed through a short answer. It was a rainy day in october. The lights went out in the hole house. Since i have very bad vision i couldn't see ****, but i eventually found my way to the bathroom because i had to poop. I located the toilet.I felt rumbling in my whole body. Just like when my dad used to shake me when i was a baby. To the point. Have you ever heard of poseidon's kiss? It's my ******* nightmare. So i had to put the toilet paper in the bowl in the dark. Not knowing where it was, but I'm a gambling man. Just like my father. I pushed so ******* hard. Like a mf triplet childbirth. Anyways the turd landed safely on the paper.

God chose to reveal Himself to me at age 28.

I can never recall a time when I didn't believe. It's plain as the nose on my face.

When I was about 5. That's what my parents and grandparents told me. That was good enough for me.

i started believing after i saw my my homie being shot by our rival gang. he had a bright future ahead of himself, he was going to attend college with a football scholarship. we were just chillin and then some punks started frontin and **** got real. it kinda ****** me up, but now i see the ways of the lord and i live freely everyday. i can honestly feel the freshness of a higher power flowing throug me when i think of my homie who died that day. thank you for everything i really feel blessed, papa bless
