This is about the great tribulation as it states in the Book of Revelation Jesus' reign will come to an end here on earth in relation to the Devil (Satan) being released upon the earth. His Gospel will have reached every nation and many will had been baptize. For those who believe in Jesus they will be hated and persecuted many will be imprisoned and executed (martyred). Israel is God's holy people which means anyone who believes in Jesus are God's holy people His Church. As Scripture states the time of the Devil (Satan) here on earth will be short eventually everything will come to an end from what I read a cataclysmic event fire raining down from heaven indicates how the world will end all will be killed but God's holy people will not perish rather they will be joined with their brothers and sisters in Jesus in the Kingdom of Heaven (New Jerusalem). The tribes of Gog and Magog represent those who had been deceived by the Devil (Satan) what awaits for them is the netherworld. As Scripture states one must die in order to be risen this also implies the natural body on the last day all the dead both the righteous and unrighteous (great and lowly) will be risen and stand before the throne of Jesus and all the nations will be judged according to their conduct this is not the Particular Judgement of each person but rather the Last Judgement in which Jesus will explain why the righteous will have eternal life and why the unrighteous will have eternal punishment.

Before the end there will only be Christians who acknowledge Jesus as the Messiah.

Matt. 24:22 - And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.

Matt. 24:24 - For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.

Verse 22 goes back to Jeremiah 30:7 which talks about the time of tribulation for Jacob, i.e. the children of Israel. Also Dan. 12:1 that talks about the same time period and how Michael the archangel will stand up for Daniel's people, again the children of Israel.

I think it would refer more specifically to the Jews but could easily apply to all who are saved during that time period.

The fact of the matter, it applies to both Jews and Gentiles because when we are saved, we are a Jew, when God saves us, a Jew is not one who is outward appearance, a Jew is of the heart of the letter, read Romans 10:12 read Galatians 3:28 read Colossians 3:11

It applies to everyone. But the elect are Christians that are true to what they believe.

I would suppose Jesus is referring **to his followers** - that is, to Christians.
