Writers please help!?

I'm writing a story about a man who's wife suffers memory loss and can't remember him. I want my readers to really feel the emotion! What are your tips for me? Thank you in advance!

It's the little things that hurt the most.

    Example:

They keep a dried rose on the coffee table - pressed and saved from a bouquet he got her on one of their first dates. She has very carefully kept it for years to preserve the memory.

Have her throw it out because it was "dead."

There's also all kinds of little everyday-routine things that can be played with and changed.

    Best of luck!

Before I Go To Sleep by S. J. Watson. She wakes up every day thinking she's 20 but she is actually a married middle- aged women who doesn't remember anything from the last dozen years. Kind of like 51 first dates.
