A slightly snarky, slightly serious question: Is there a topic other than Wicca where folks on Y!A do this particular thing over and over?

The topic asks a question about which people can only know if they have real training in the subject, but when someone who has the real training answers, the questioner and others immediately call the person who has the training and cites the training as what it is, "arrogant" and "mean." Seriously. Like, "In contract law, (insert question that only a contract lawyer can answer), blah blah?" And then a contract lawyer shows up and lists her/his alma mater and the fact that they have a Juris Doctor degree, and answers the question. THEN, this happens: "You're so ARROGANT to call yourself a LAWYER. OMG, you must be so FULL OF YOURSELF to even think that someone who read a few books on law in High School isn't JUST AS GOOD AS YOU ARE!! You are so freaking insane to think you can answer a question on LAW! This is just YOUR OPINION." C'mon folks. Is it just Wicca that's this special?

Update:

UPDATE: That's the thing, Anon. It's not about it being "the way I believe they should learn." Wicca is very specific. It's about factual definition, not belief. It's like someone saying, "OK, what color feathers should a real elephant have?" Um, an elephant doesn't have feathers..."Oh, that's just what you BELIEVE I SHOULD BELIEVE." That's the issue. It's about the responsibility of us who have the actual training to help those who are seeking to have working definitions.

  • It happens across the board over many different areas.

You asked a question some time ago similar to this question which I answered. We had numerous exchanges as comments under my answer and one of your comments was along the lines of "I really appreciate your input" or something to that effect. I am not sure what happened to that question of yours but it's gone.

What I said to that other question I will reiterate: It is not necessary for you to put "3rd degree Traditional High Priestess - Classically Trained" after every answer you post. Doing so does make you look arrogant or pompous as most people, not all but most, do not visit this site only once and never come back. Seeing someone post credentials every time they answer any question at all comes across as being full of yourself.

I'm an ordained Christian minister....AND an atheist with paganism in my family. You can imagine the hell I get over in R&S. No pun intended.

I'm an organic farmer, and I can't believe the people who tell me I don't know squat about growing stuff.

The internet gives people the opportunity to be self-righteous and none of the embarrassment of being shown to be wrong. Such are people.

Added: As for Wicca, 99.99% of the people in the world are totally clueless and can't get off their lazy asses to learn that it isn't a Satanic cult.

There is a lot of nonsense that I skip or stop reading after a few words. What you describe would be something like that. I don't keep count because eight of ten things on this forum are nonsense.

Here's a snarky answer: Why not post this in the Religion section?

Why it seems to bother you in the first place is beyond me. If people don't want to learn the way YOU believe it should be learned, then big deal. THEY'RE the ones being affected, not you.

No. I'm a dietitian and when I answer any nutrition questions, I am swamped by idiot keyboard warriors who think their opinion trumps my profession and my years of education. People are just arrogant.

I've never seen that. Just people making fun of it or saying magic isn't real.
