Wiccans: Best historical books for students. I've got a few, but wondering your opinions on this subject.?
Mine: Hutton's "Triumph of the Moon,"
"Ethics and the Craft," by Coughlin
"A Witch's Bible Compleat," by the Farrars
The typical stuff by Gardner and Valiente for reference, within context of much discussion about pseudo-history
And Green Egg Omelet for American Wicca/Neo-Paganism survey
What else have you got, if anything? Those choosing to post bible quotes or "the bible" will be on the receiving end of "the dog pee curse," as an idiot tax. That's a JOKE, people. But don't waste my time, because I read the bible and it was the main reason for me leaving Christianity. I'm a Pagan clergy person now. That ship has sailed. Thankee kindly.
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality5 years agoA slightly snarky, slightly serious question: Is there a topic other than Wicca where folks on Y!A do this particular thing over and over?
The topic asks a question about which people can only know if they have real training in the subject, but when someone who has the real training answers, the questioner and others immediately call the person who has the training and cites the training as what it is, "arrogant" and "mean." Seriously. Like, "In contract law, (insert question that only a contract lawyer can answer), blah blah?" And then a contract lawyer shows up and lists her/his alma mater and the fact that they have a Juris Doctor degree, and answers the question. THEN, this happens: "You're so ARROGANT to call yourself a LAWYER. OMG, you must be so FULL OF YOURSELF to even think that someone who read a few books on law in High School isn't JUST AS GOOD AS YOU ARE!! You are so freaking insane to think you can answer a question on LAW! This is just YOUR OPINION." C'mon folks. Is it just Wicca that's this special?
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality5 years agoQuestion for Pagans who are part of a Tradition: What regalia does your trad have and what are its meanings?
Pagans of any stripe (including Wiccans in a Tradition), what types of regalia do you have? For instance, my Trad has certain color robes and cords for different levels of initiation, various natural necklaces are worn by women of certain rank (amber for first degree, jet for second, amber and jet for third). We have garters and bells or buckles for hived groups, etc. Just curious about other Trads and kinds of Paganism and what they use.
2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality5 years agoExperienced Wiccans: What's your favorite "Fluff Bunny" behavior?
Let me start off the list:
1. Quoting Cunningham or Ravenwolf to an Initiate to "prove" why You're Right!!
2. Getting mad at TV shows and movies for "misrepresenting your religion" when they're just fictional portrayals of witches.
3. Wearing all black all the time and dripping with 1 inch wide silver pentagrams in the grocery store.
4. Saying "Blessed Be!" constantly with no clue what it actually means.
What's YOUR fave fluffy behavior?
10 AnswersMythology & Folklore7 years agoPagans Only: What's your favorite Neo-Pagan multi-day festival to attend and why?
I love Free Spirit Gathering and I've hear PSG is awesome. Which ones have you attended and can you tell me a bit about your faves?
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoHas anyone here taught a class at Paganicon in Minnesota?
I'm teaching "Crisis Intervention for Pagan Clergy" there and was wondering if instructors from last year could chime in on their experience working with the con itself and anything else you'd care to share. I'm experienced in teaching, but haven't taught at a hotel-based con yet.
