How did I send texts with my cell and wifi shut off?

Update:

I sent and received texts on my iPhone today, then realized my cell and wifi were off. What's going on? Was it sending over the telephone line? Have I been hacked by a Stingray device?

Update 2:

By cell I meant cellular data - I had no internet connection.

If your cell was off how did you see what you are typing?

If you are sending plain texts then you don't need data enabled!

What do you mean your cell was off? Do you mean mobile data? Then obviously the messages were sent through SMS the old fashioned way, you know, they way they get sent when there was no mobile internet.

The only way you can turn your cell off is to put it in airplane mode which i doubt you did.
