if there is no God, then what do you believe is the purpose of human life? And, what do you see as the purpose of your personal existence?

Why does everything require a predestined purpose? Wouldnt that idea itself make every decision useless anyway? Humans ARE nature. The most advanced organism that found a way to survive a universe constantly trying to kill us. Thats pretty amazing.

In addition to that, figure this. If aliens looked down on earth, they would probably see humans as a cancer on a beautiful organism. We spread, we kill, we destroy, we pollute. Humans are arguably the very worst thing that ever happened to this planet. A disease bent on replication and self destruction. I dont think the creator myth, all of us in its image fits that bill.

Further more, as a species we find ways to justify every single horrible act we commit. Be it religion, circucmstance, or what have you. Think about all that the next time some a**hole in a dress tells you that you are better than me and saved.

My life has no objective meaning, I decide what my life means myself. My personal view is that we are all interconnected like a web with a cause and effect relationship driving our life at all times. I may not know you personally, but I bet if I trace back far enough we are connected somehow, either through a mutual friend or a distanced relationship. The connections could be far or very close, but all humans are in the web and I think it is important to remember we are all in the web together. So that being said, working to fix our problems and insure the "web" isn't destroyed is of vital important, to me at least

The same as all life, to survive and breed, in basic terms.

However we are so successful at that we now have the problem of breeding beyond our resources, we have already triggered a mass extinction of other species. So our success has the added responsibility of making sure we will have a viable biosphere for future generations.

As far as my personal existence goes, it's mostly family and work.

There is no intrinsic purpose to anything. Purpose is a man-made concept.

The purpose of my personal existence is what I choose it to be. To live, love and learn; to invent things; to make music with friends; to make the world a little better if I can, or at least not make it any worse.

Now I have a question. If there is a god, then what do you believe is the purpose of it?

Thanks for this question. I've answered it before. ..

Basically, we all make our owns beds.

I made by bed with no assistance from a judge-mental charlatan who wants money to tell me how to live......

“Life has no meaning. Each of us has meaning and we bring it to life. It is a waste to be asking the question when you are the answer.”

    -- Joseph Campbell

“The theist can only find meaning by leaving this life for a transcendental world beyond the grave. The human world as he finds it is empty of ‘ultimate purpose’ and hence meaningless. Theism thus is an attempt to escape from the human condition; it is a pathetic deceit.

    - Paul Kurtz

Atheism is only for mature adults.

Could it be that we are an experiment in some super higher intelligence that plays around with different life forms, and their existence and survival,is just a matter of research in some other senior high school in a far off galaxy, who knows ?

Why does life have to have a purpose? Humans, just like any other living thing, simply fill a niche in the planet's ecosystem (or at least we used to). There is no great mystery, we're here because our parents had sex and created us.

There is no ultimate purpose to anything.. Purpose is what we make of it.. Take a rock for example.. The rock by itself has to real purpose.. on a windy day you place a rock on a piece of paper it's purpose becomes to hold the paper. tie it to the end of a stick it becomes a club or axe.. We are no different.. your purpose today can be to provide for your family, once your family it grown and out of the house your purpose can be to help others.. or just be happy yourself.. Purpose is what WE assign to it.. it's ours!

I believe the purpose of my life is have a purpose. That may (almost certainly will) change over time. a 15 year old, a 30 year old, a 70 year old will all think about school, family, love, death, etc, differently

Our lives have no purpose other than to reproduce and evolve and everything else is what we have added to it from our advances in technology and society. My personal purpose is to do whatever I can to make the world a better place for my children and to leave them with fond memories of my life. Hope this helps.
