One red spot on my tongue?

I was brushing my teeth and noticed a little spot my tongue, like on my taste bud. It's red and a tiny bit swollen or something. It's like near the back and a little to the side. It doesn't hurt at all and doesn't affect anything I wouldn't have even noticed it if I didn't brush my tongue but it wasn't there yesterday so it's kinda weird.

It sounds like it could be a slightly larger version of your normal taste buds there is a V-shaped row of them at the back called Circumvallate papillae. So it's worthwhile checking your tongue for anything similar looking. If though, it does seem abnormal, even if it's only slightly larger than other similarly shaped things, then keep monitoring it - particularly watch out for changes in shape, size, colour, firmness and texture. If it does change, see your dentist promptly. Otherwise, just raise the issue at your next dental check up, consider bringing it forward if you are in any way worried.
