yes. both. depends upon your view point and what factors you are considering.

The older I get, the more in favor I become of IQ tests as a requirement to vote.

When America was founded...The Democrats in some states did stop some other 'groups' from the universal suffrage...After Republicans shot enough disloyal Democrats in the 1860s...All people could vote...The Democrats put on the hoods to fight this for over 100 years....After some Blacks agreed to vote Democrat, in the 1960s, Democrats did remove the hoods, after some 'battles' between the police, blacks and a few Democrat mayors.

the educated part wasn't true. any male landowner could vote -- even if illiterate. One of the points of New England town meeting was that all business was done verbally, so there was no requirement that a voter be literate [or literate in English]

It has made society better overall, but that isn't to say that it hasn't gotten worse in some localized areas where a majority of the voters contribute nothing and demand everything.

Honestly this is the sort of question a male should only ask his mother. Hey mom did women's suffrage help you get the vote mommy? Well any intelligent person would say Yes

  • Worse in some ways, better in others. I do believe that there should be a test to determine if voters have enough knowledge to know what they are voting for. For instance, if you are voting for president/vice president, you should be able to name the current VP or you should not be allowed to vote. If you are voting for congress/senate, you should know who the current people are in the position or you should not be allowed to vote. I am not talking a full blow civics test, but just the very basics about whom/what you are voting for.
