what attire to use under graduation gown?

it all depends on what you plan to do before and after the ceremony - perhaps a meal with friends and family afterwards at a nice location, so dress up! a dress shirt and pants- maybe a suit- a nice neck tie or even more appropriate a bow tie! it's your celebration- be part of it by looking good. You should dress for the occasion. Dress pants (black or navy), belt, button down shirt with tie, dress shoes, socks that match color of pants (black or navy). I've sat through 8 graduations (HS, AA, one Bachelors Science so far) and seen sneakers, flop flops, bare legs under graduation gowns. It looks tacky and horrible, dress nicely if you are going to have pictures taken,

It really doesn't matter you can just weak a white shirt pants and shoes but what I see the most is like dressing shoes, some dressing pants, a collar shirt (doesn't matter if it's long sleeve but that could look better) and a tie or a bow tie.
