My Mom had two middle names. They were both family names and both last names. When we put her obituary in the paper it looked like she had been married 3 times. She hated two middle names. I am not a fan either.

Yes. Everybody on my mum's side of the family gets three forenames. It's a family tradition that started in the eighteenth century as far as I can tell when I did a bit of genealogy. It's a bit of an art to get them to "flow" right when you say them aloud. I ended up rearranging the order of mine while quite a few of my cousins go my one of their middle names. I thought we had a bit of a mouthful and never enough space on forms until I had a landlady with four forenames: Birgitta Sigrid Esther Mary Double-barreled Surname!

My niece has two middle names - Her name is Ebony Renee Ellen (which is the family name). My sister didn't like Ebony Ellen but wanted to continue the tradition so I suggested Renee in the middle.
