I am worried I will not enjoy spicy food when I get old...?
I am 46 now and have always loved spicy food since I was a child. I still love it just as much now as I did then. Will I still love it when I get old (70+)? I am worried because a lot of the old people I know don't care for it.

As I got older I got MORE spicy - and it's fine. If you eat a good diet of plenty of fiber and good fats, this stuff doesn't bother you. One main thing I live on is jalapeno stew - I use 15 jalapenos and other peppers as a "broth" for lots of vegetables and meat. As I got used to that, I've begun to put in more very very hot chili powders.
Maybe it's healthy - but I just have come to depend on that great taste of all that heat.

No need to worry, a lot of people I know still enjoy spicy food.
Tastes can change at any age for lots of different reasons.
If you like really hot spicy food your body may get fed up with that but there's no reason why you can't enjoy a milder spice.

why would you worry about your tastes changing? They change all the time. I bet when you were a little kid you didn't like spicy foods and acquired that taste later in life. Were you worried back then that you would lose the taste for bland food?
Life is too short to worry about something that may or may not happen 30 years from now. Perhaps by then you will ave acquired a taste for something completely different....or not.

I think that many of us were raised in cultures where blander food is the norm. Some of the cuisines that are popular today--such as Mexican or Italian--were considered rather exotic when I was growing up, so it may be that many seniors just prefer the type of food they were raised with. But another factor may be that many seniors have digestive issues that spicy food may aggravate.

Read somewhere that folks start losing sense of taste as they age. To counter that, I eat spicier food now than I did when young. I live in Thailand and love their food along with hot Indian food. Not to worry

Not to worry, unless you ended up with taking many types of medicines you can lose your taste buds but otherwise there are over the counter heartburn or acid reflux you can take if it gets bad. It's what I do and I am 71 years old.

Hi sad to say as the digestion system gets older it has issues with spicy food so that is why older people have issues with spices

When I retired, I was able to eat spicy food that I couldn't eat before. Almost 80 and still able to eat the hottest, and spiciest.

It may not be that you won't like spicy foods as the fact that your body may no longer be able to tolerate them. Seniors' stomachs tend to be more "touchy" than those of younger people.
