"The Iron Heel" by Jack London - it's probably the most engrossing novella I've ever read. London manages to do more with a hundred pages than some authors can do with a thousand. It's an incredibly prophetic work, exciting, character-driven, and very well-paced. It was one of the earliest dystopian works and it still stands up today to everything that came after it. Just a wonderful, highly enjoyable and captivating read.
