Maybe "everybody is writing them off" because the team has established a pattern of performing well below expectations in the postseason?

The Raptors were a high seed last year and got smoked early. This year, despite home court advantage, the Raptors nearly lost to the #7 seed Pacers and against the Heat so far they've lost home court advantage and got stomped in overtime at home.

He's probably bringing it up to motivate the team, like it's an 'us against the world' thing, but in reality people ARE writing them off because they deserve to be written off until they prove they can consistently play high level basketball when it matters (in the postseason).

It's classic coach/player speak. "Nobody believed in us!", when your team was the odds-on favorite. "It's us against the world!" when you've got a huge fanbase. They're trying to create an image of their team as an underdog, because that's supposed to rally fans and make players try harder.
