Is it weird I drum better on a surface with no bounce?
I ve been drumming for nearly a decade now and I ve gotten used to the kit.
But I noticed, I seem to have an easier time when practicing on a surface without bounce... like a pillow or sand bag.
My rudiments just sound and feel better.
Though I do know the who thing about letting your stick bounce on the kit... I do that.
But I love the feel of no bounce... where it s just my wrists.
Is this weird?

I don't know if it is weird, but the bounce on the drum head will give you a better response and will prevent your wrists and hands from getting tired. With no bounce, it is difficult to maintain a drum roll or do a series of complex drum maneuvers around the snare, toms etc..

It's not weird if you are practicing single stroke rudiments. It is literally impossible if you are practicing anything with a double stroke like a paradiddle. But still as with any kind of training, emulating the real experience as closely as possible is the better practice. This is not what you are doing and as a result will be slower to develop proper stick control.

Not really.
