Why do we say human "being?"?

I have guinea pigs.. why aren't they Guinea pig Beings?

and if they are, why don't we call them that?

    I refer to my guinea pigs as fuzzy non-human people. Because to me they are friends and very affectionate.

    I don't know. I call my guinea pig my son, so it's a moot point to me. ;-)
