Chihuahua puppy sleeping question, pls answer?
Hi all, i have two dogs
dachshund-girl
chihuahua-boy
my dachshund is 9 years old, and my chihuahua is 7 months old
my dachshund used to be an outdoor dog earlier but now we keep her inside during the day and outside during night time
the climate here is around 47 degree celsius, as its summer, so the air conditioner is mostly on inside
now for my other dog who is a chihuahua male puppy, he is long haired, and he is moderately active
my parents think that all my attention and focus is going on my chihuahua
till now my chihuahua used to sleep in my room on his blanket, and rarely he used to come on my bed and sleep there
but now my parents think that my chihuahua is grown up, and he will smell, plus dogs shouldnt be allowed to sleep in a common room with humans, as that can cause many diseases
so now my parents have decided that my chihuahua will not sleep in my room
my room and my parents room are linked through a 5*8 feet corridor, and that corridor leads to the living room
my parents have said that my chihuahua will sleep anywhere in the house, except for my room, corridor and my parents room
and yesterday night we tried it, but my chihuahua started crying, so we had to get him inside my room
so yeah, what should i do? i am only 14, my sister who sleeps with me is 6, we have a common room
thanks
Update: during the day the chihuahua can go any where he wants, it is just the matter of 8 hrs during the night, he cries

Your parents have bizarre ideas that are NOT based on any scientific FACTS. Have they or are they willing to speak to your dog's veterinarian about their concerns?
WHY would they think the older puppy would be any MORE likely to cause disease problems, NOW than before (when it was still wormy or did not have all of its vaccinations) or ONLY at NIGHT while everyone is asleep? <sigh>
There are very few diseases you can catch FROM dogs, other than rabies and if the dog (which is required BY LAW) to have its rabies vaccine - has had its shot, it cannot get OR give you rabies. IMO, that is the most important concern. Roundworms or tapeworms can be transmitted to you or onto your bedding if you kiss the dog mouth-to- mouth, or sleep with the dog on your bed.
ANY interaction with a dog can transmit disease. It has NOTHING to DO with where one sleeps, if the dog is not kept up to date on vaccinations & worming. But if these things ARE done, and you wash your hands AFTER petting or handling the dog -you should have little to no worries.

Your parents are misinformed about dogs. It's better if the dog sleeps with its people, it forms a bond with them. You are not going to get any diseases from sleeping with the dog that the entire family won't get from the dog just being in the house. And if your dog has been vet checked and vaccinated then you're all fine, most diseases dogs get can't be spread to humans anyway. Parasites can, but I'm assuming your dog has been cleared of all parasites, and again everyone will get them from him being in the house.
Either your parents are making excuses because they just don't want you sleeping with the dog for some reason, or they are totally uneducated about dogs.

Family dogs, minors can't own property, dogs are property, their house, their rules, live with it.
