Do you think I have a chance of getting back in?

This time last year I went through MEPS aND enlisted in the USAF. I was supposed to leave to BMT on Dec 1, 2015. Some unfortunate things happened and I ended up not going. Looking back on it now I regret getting out of DEP, and I really really have a desire to go in, but I'm afraid they might not let me if I tried again, and that's all I want. I've since then moved to San Antonio, the gateway to the AF. Do you think if I went to a recruiter and explained everything that happened, what led to me getting out before my ship date and that all I really want is to join that he/she would give me a chance? Because dam I regret it so much.. Just give me your thoughts.

    Very tough.

While dropping out of DEP does not bar you from enlistment, for practical purposes it is mighty hard to get in after that.

Look at this from a recruiter's perspective: They have numbers they need to hit. It takes a LOT of time and effort to get an enlistment package pushed through. It can take a year for some candidates. That's a lot of work on a recruiter's part.

Your previous recruiter did all that work -- and you bailed on him. You hosed your recruiter big time. All that time they spent on you they could have spent on someone who wouldn't flake out on them. You wasted hours upon hours of their time. They put in all that work for nothing. Their recruitment numbers don't change despite all that effort. You get to just walk away but they have to start all over with a new applicant.

Now imagine YOU'RE a recruiter. You get a new applicant. You look up their information and find they dropped out of DEP. Do you put your time and effort into that person? You have documentation that they will renege on a promise. They already hosed one recruiter. What would inspire YOU to work with them?

Recruiters choose who they put their time into. Maybe you'll find one who will work with you. You are not prohibited from enlisting. But you will be very hard pressed to find a recruiter who is willing to put in that kind of time and effort on a second chance. They can find ten other applicants who do not have evidence of screwing over another recruiter.

By all means, talk with one. You might find one. But go in prepared: I would not be very optimistic if I were you.

Here's the thing. You know you screwed up by dropping from DEP. Then you come here expecting us to stroke your ego and make you feel good by saying, "yeah, they'll let you in." Or perhaps, you actually want an answer, be it yes or no. The problem is this. No one on this forum is in a position to make that decision.

My suggestion is this. Get off the dime and visit a recruiter. That person is the only one who can answer accurately.

Not the Air Force, they aren't going to be stung twice. That's a general rule of thumb that all services follow. Give the Army a try. Also the Navy and USMC.

Only if you can somehow convince a new Recruiter that you are not going to be a total waste of time AGAIN.

Depends on what "some unfortunate things" actually are. But the most likely answer is no way.

I'm guessing a big fat NO.
