Is Windows 10 despite the MS hype not worth the upgrade effort?

I think it's worth the upgrade especially if you're running Windows 7. The question implies that the OS doesn't meet expectations or failed to live up to it's promised features but so far that hasn't been the case. For most people the upgrade is seamless and all programs and personal files are transferred to the new OS without problems.
It's also worth noting that on May 29th there were more Windows 10 users than 7 in the USA.[1] That's interesting considering the OS was officially released less than a year ago.

It is better then Windows 8, or 7 imo. But if I had to pay for it though, I'm not sure it's worth it, as I think I can live with Linux as a replacement for Windows.

It is well worth the effort to upgrade. Much more secure, faster, better features, improved system.
