How do I connect Christmas lights to an audio system?
My friend had this setup years ago where the lights strung around his room would blink in time with the music he played. I figured it was just the lights being spliced into the subwoofer but I've heard it's actually a bit more complicated than that. So what exactly do I need to set this up myself?

Google search for "color organ".
There are many versions, some of which have outlets
to which lights of your choice can be connected.

You can buy sets that do this, or larger lighting sets that do it. since you have to ask, that would probably be smartest. I am sure there are kits and electronic hobby books with exemplar project circuits that you would build, but I dont get the impression you are looking for a hobby, just blinking lights.
