Could a dog give me some type of worms or diseases if it licked my water bottle?

I was at the beach today and I brought my bottle with me. A strangers dog licked my bottle and I did not drink from the nozzle after that until I came home. When I came home, I washed it under the sink (both bottle and nozzle) with soap, I made sure to get it as well as I could. Just wondering if I could get something from the dog? It didn't look like it was a badly cared for dog, it looked healthy and cared for. Would the soap wash it away?

Anon, if gay men worry you that much don't sleep with them. Its not rocket science.

Confused Dude, the worst that could happen is you get a tapeworm, the odds are heavily against that happening so stop worrying. If you do get symptoms in 6 months then see your doctor or pharmacist, they are very easy to treat.

Dog's mouths are actually much cleaner than humans'. Their saliva actually has antibacterial properties, that's why they lick their wounds. Pretty low chance of contracting a disease from that. Kissing or even shaking a hand for that matter with a human is probably more dangerous.

I don't think so, but just to be safe throw it out. If you're ever not sure though call the vet and ask. I ask them questions all the time trust me it's better know for sure than hear other people's guesses.

I would worry more about homosexuals in the workplace, especially in food places, than I would about dogs.

    • Homosexuals account for 34% of all gonorrhea cases, 60% of all syphilis cases, and 17% of all hospital admissions (other than for STDs) in the United States (5). They make up only 1-2% of the population.

    • Homosexuals live unhealthy lifestyles, and have historically accounted for the bulk of syphilis, gonorrhea, Hepatitis B, the "gay bowel syndrome" (which attacks the intestinal tract), tuberculosis and cytomegalovirus (27).
